ENDORSED BY THE SOUTH AUSTRALIAN SKILLS COMMISSION

Course Overview

Micro-credentials are bite-sized courses linked to industry needs and are relevant for people at all stages of their career. They provide an opportunity for people to engage in lifelong learning through shorter training opportunities that are available as they progress through their career.

Through industry consultation, we identified three units within the Certificate IV in civil construction supervision training package that can be later credit transferred for learners if they continue their studies, as well as a non-accredited subject on conflict resolution to ensure crucial skills are obtained when managing teams.

The new course was created to address current skill needs in bridging the gap between being an apprentice who has completed their apprenticeship (Certificate III) and becoming supervisor who manages large civil construction projects and teams (Certificate IV).

Many team leaders must first hone their skills and manage small civil works teams before moving on to larger complex projects with multiple internal and external work groups. Over the years, Civil Train SA has received numerous inquiries requesting this short course because the Certificate IV is too long and involved, and employers cannot release their employees for that length of time to upskill them.
