Course Overview

Flexible Industry Pathways (FIPs) enable students to commence a VET qualification whilst at school completing their SACE and are a great option for students looking for a skilled career. FIPs aim to support students into school-based apprenticeships. They are tailored for Year 11 and 12 students.

This qualification reflects the roles of individuals who perform mainly routine tasks and procedures, using limited practical skills and fundamental operational knowledge, and taking some responsibility for the quality of the work outcomes. This Certificate II in Resources and Infrastructure Work Preparation is a pathway qualification and will prepare an individual to successfully undertake a sector specified Certificate III from the Resources and Infrastructure Industry.

To proceed with enrolment, school VET-Coordinators are to initiate the VET Readiness Orientation (VETRO) process by completing Part A of the below referral form.

Entry Requirements

Entrants will need a level of language and literacy skills to enable them to meet the requirements of the course.
The applicant must be able to use the English language at a level that is appropriate for the safe use and operation of the particular class of equipment. As an example, the applicant must be able to read and comprehend hazard warning signs, load charts, data plates and any other safe operating requirement. The applicant must be able to communicate this information to the registered assessor.
Learner will undertake an Upfront Assessment of needs (UAN) prior to course enrolment.
All Participants must:
• reside or work in South Australia;
and
• be an Australian or New Zealand citizen; or
• be a permanent Australian resident; or
• hold a State sponsored visa on a pathway to permanent residency; or
• hold a humanitarian temporary visa of a class specified by the Minister from time to time;
and are
• not enrolled in school, and aged 16 years or over; or
• enrolled in school, undertaking training through identified subsidised arrangements (such as VET for School Students), and
– in Year 10 or above, and undertaking training as an apprentice or trainee through a Training Contract that combines VET and school-based curriculum (including SACE); or
– in Year 11 or above, aged 16 years or over or turning 16 in the current year of enrolment, undertaking fulltime SACE or equivalent, and have completed a relevant preparatory VET Pathway.

Personal Protective Equipment

Students will need to wear appropriate personal protective clothing (PPE) to enable them to fully participate in all the activities.
PPE includes:
- Long sleeve shirt (high visibility shirt preferable)*
- Long pants/Trousers (No Shorts)
- Safety boots (preferable to undertake all activities) or non-slip enclosed shoes (limited on practical activities)
- Hat
- Water bottle

* Students participating in the doorways2construction/ Flexible Industry Pathway program with an approved CITB number are eligible for subsidies and PPE packs.
