On completion of this course, participants will have gained an understanding of:

• Silica hazards and health risks: Identify respirable crystalline silica and understand the serious health effects associated with exposure.
• Identifying silica-containing materials: Recognise common workplace materials containing crystalline silica and interpret relevant Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
• Exposure risks and workplace limits: Understand how silica dust is generated, how workers are exposed and the applicable workplace exposure standard.
• Dust control measures: Identify safe work practices and effective controls, including wet suppression, dust extraction, isolation and ventilation.
• Respiratory protective equipment (RPE): Understand appropriate respiratory protection, including correct selection, fit testing, use and maintenance.
• Workplace safety obligations: Understand the relevant Work Health and Safety Regulations, including controlled processing, high-risk activities and silica risk control plans.
• Air and health monitoring: Recognise workplace monitoring requirements and their role in managing silica exposure risks.

Regulator-Approved Training

This training has been formally approved by SafeWork SA as regulator-approved crystalline silica safety training under Regulation 529CD(4) of the Work Health and Safety Regulations 2012 (SA).
