Course Overview

This course  provides essential skills for safely and efficiently operating a roller in civil construction. It covers planning, risk management, equipment operation, emergency preparedness, and safe relocation, ensuring participants can perform compaction tasks while adhering to safety standards.

Course Outcomes

On completion of the course you will be able to:

Effective Planning and Preparation:

  • Understand and apply roller operations documentation.
  • Identify hazards, assess risks, and implement safety measures.
  • Select suitable equipment and PPE, and follow emergency procedures.

Proficient Roller Operation:

  • Perform prestart and start-up checks.
  • Operate the roller according to equipment capabilities and site conditions.
  • Safely manage contaminants and adjust roller accessories as needed.

Safe Machine Relocation:

  • Prepare and relocate the roller safely between work areas.
  • Assist with loading and unloading the roller on trailers.

Comprehensive Housekeeping:

  • Clear work areas and dispose of materials properly.
  • Report hazards and complete all required documentation to maintain a safe workplace.

Upon successful completion of this course you will receive a Statement of Attainment and Competency Card.

    Course Duration

    This course is three (3) days.

    Entry Requirements

    As part of your course enrolment at Civil Train there is a requirement that you complete a short online quiz. This will assist Civil Train to understand your current levels of language, literacy and numeracy (LLN), to ensure you are at the appropriate level to successfully complete your selected training course. This is a one-time quiz and results will be saved to your learner file and referred to for all future enrolments.

    Please note: Civil Train only carries out assessments in English.

    The applicant must be able to use the English language at a level that is appropriate for the safe use and operation of the particular class of equipment. As an example, the applicant must be able to read and comprehend hazard warning signs, load charts, data plates and any other safe operating requirement. The applicant must be able to communicate this information to the registered assessor.

    Delivery & Assessment

    This course is delivered face to face.

    There are theory and practical training and assessment components to the course that are online.
