Course Overview

The course is designed for experienced operators to validate their skills and knowledge in safely operating rollers within civil construction environments. This assessment process covers key areas such as pre-operational checks, equipment handling, compaction techniques, risk management, and workplace safety compliance. Participants will demonstrate their ability to plan, prepare, and perform roller operations efficiently while adhering to safety standards and industry best practices. This course allows experienced operators to demonstrate their competency and meet industry standards.

Course Outcomes

On completion of the course you will be able to:

Effective Planning and Preparation:

  • Access and apply roller operation documentation efficiently.
  • Identify hazards, assess risks, and implement control measures.
  • Select appropriate equipment and PPE, and follow emergency protocols.

Skilled Roller Operation:

  • Conduct prestart checks and ensure proper roller functionality.
  • Operate the roller in line with equipment and site requirements.
  • Safely manage contaminants and adjust accessories as needed.

Safe Roller Relocation:

  • Prepare and relocate the roller safely between worksites.
  • Assist with secure loading and unloading onto trailers.

Comprehensive Housekeeping:

  • Clear and maintain work areas, ensuring proper disposal of materials.
  • Report hazards and complete documentation to support site safety compliance.

Upon successful completion of this course you will receive a Statement of Attainment and Competency Card.

    Course Duration

    This course is one (1) day.

    Entry Requirements

    Participants must have prior experience operating a roller. Once enrolled:

    • A self-assessment checklist, provided by Civil Train, must be submitted to verify experience on the machine.
    • Completion of Plant Safety pre-reading and assessment questions, supplied by Civil Train, is required before attending the course.

    As part of your course enrolment at Civil Train there is a requirement that you complete a short online quiz. This will assist Civil Train to understand your current levels of language, literacy and numeracy (LLN), to ensure you are at the appropriate level to successfully complete your selected training course. This is a one-time quiz and results will be saved to your learner file and referred to for all future enrolments.

    Please note: Civil Train only carries out assessments in English.

    The applicant must be able to use the English language at a level that is appropriate for the safe use and operation of the particular class of equipment. As an example, the applicant must be able to read and comprehend hazard warning signs, load charts, data plates and any other safe operating requirement. The applicant must be able to communicate this information to the registered assessor.

    Delivery & Assessment

    This course is delivered face to face to experienced operators.

    There are theory and practical assessment components to the course that are online.
